Motorola Profile

Current Inventory Technical Documentation
Motorola Company Overview Motorola has its earliest roots in the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation founded in Chicago in 1928 by the Galvin brothers. The name Motorola was branded on the company's first car radio products in 1930. The company name was officially changed to Motorola, Inc. in 1947.
In 1955, Motorola launched its first mass-produced semiconductor and one of the first high-power transistors in commercial production, a germanium transistor intended for car radios. In 1961, Motorola developed silicon rectifiers used in automobile alternators, making the alternator an economical replacement for the less durable generator. In 1974, Motorola introduced the 8-bit MC6800 microprocessor. Ten years later, the Motorola MC68020 was the first true 32-bit microprocessor. Also launched in 1984 was the MC68HC11 8-bit embedded controller, one of the most widely used MCUs in history.
In the late 1990s, Motorola began divesting its Semiconductor operations. Most notable was the sale of the Semiconductor Components Group to Texas Pacific Group in May, 1999, which moved the discrete, analog and standard logic product lines to the company to be known as On Semiconductor. Then, in July, 2004, Motorola spun off the last major part of its semiconductor operations, the Microcontrollers, DSPs and Analog/Mixed-Signal product lines, as Freescale Semiconductor.
Products Manufactured by Motorola The types of products manufactured by Motorola include On Semiconductor: Power Discretes and ICs, Analog Amplifiers, Comparators and Switches, Bipolar Transistors, MOSFETs, and Digital Logic ICs.
Freescale Semiconductor: 8-bit Microcontrollers, 16-bit Microcontrollers, 32-Bit Microcontrollers & Processors, Analog and Mixed Signal ICs, ASICs, Digital Signal Processors & Controllers, Memory (MRAM), RF Linear Amplifiers, RF Power Devices & Modules, Sensors, Wireless and Mobile ICs and Subsystems.
