Intellon designs integrated circuits for powerline communications, providing HomePlug-compliant and other powerline ICs for home networking, networked entertainment, commercial and broadband over powerline (BPL) applications. Intellon created the baseline technology for the HomePlug 1.0 standard and introduced the world's first HomePlug 1.0-based IC in June 2001. Since that time, the company has introduced two new generations of HomePlug 1.0-based ICs, using technology innovation and integration to reduce IC and BOM prices. Intellon is also a major contributor to the baseline technology for the new 200 Mbps HomePlug Audio/Video (AV) standard. Intellon ICs are used to create instant networks, enabling PCs, broadband modems, set-top boxes, gaming consoles and audio/video devices to communicate instantly over existing power lines in the home. Intellon was acquired by Atheros Communications in September, 2009. In May, 2011, Qualcomm acquired Atheros Communications.
