NEC Electronics - Renesas  Company Overview

NEC Electronics has its roots in the Nippon Electric Company, formed in 1899 as a joint venture with Western Electric.  NEC began research in transistors in 1950 and has since grown to be one of the world-leading semiconductor manufacturers.

In 2002, NEC Electronics was divested from NEC Corp.  

NEC Electronics and Renesas Technology Corp merged to become Renesas Technology in April, 2010.
