Sescosem was formed during the merger of Thomson-Brandt and CSF in 1968. Thomson's SESCO division was merged with CSF's COSEM division to form SESCOSEM. Sescosem's products were never a big commercial success, but the technology was eventually absorbed in the subsequent mergers that created STMicroelectronics. STMicroelectronics was created in 1987 by the merger of SGS Microelettronica of Italy and Thomson Semiconducteurs of France with the aim of becoming a world leader in the sub-micron era. Today, STMicroelectronics is a global semiconductor company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs) and discrete devices used in a wide variety of microelectronic applications, including telecommunications systems, computer systems, consumer products, automotive products and industrial automation and control systems.
The types of products manufactured by Sescosem - STMicroelectronics include early versions of 54- and 74-series TTL Logic devices, discrete diodes and transistors, and 16-bit MOS memory devices.
