Weitek - Rockwell  Company Overview

Founded in 1981, Weitek Corporation was a chip-design company that originally concentrated on floating point units and high-performance digital semiconductor components and systems for the computer and workstation industries.   The company filed for bankruptcy protection in 1996.

Weitek's assets were subsequently acquired by Rockwell Semiconductor in the same year, and the technology quickly disappeared.
