Avalon Photonics produces world-class VCSELs (vertical cavity surface emitting lasers) for the datacom, sensing, and measurement markets. These devices are enabling volume applications due to their exceptional performance, low power consumption, and low cost. Avalon also produces unique, patent-protected, single-spatial-mode VCSELs with unsurpassed specifications required for many sensing and measurement applications.

Avalon Photonics was acquired by Bookham Inc. in 2007.

Subsequently, Bookham and Avanex merged to become Oclaro in 2009, creating one of the largest suppliers of fibre-optic components and subsystems in the optical communications industry.
