GoldStar Semiconductor was formed in 1979 as a joint venture between Korean electronics giant, GoldStar, and the USA communications giant AT&T. GoldStar Semiconductor was a second-source producer for logic chips, memory devices, and more advanced chips such as microprocessors. AT&T sold it share back to GoldStar in 1994, and GoldStar changed its name to LG Electronics in 1995. In October, 1999, LG Semicon merged with Hyundai Electronics to form Hynix Semiconductor. In March, 2012 partnered with SK Group and changed its name to SK Hynix.
